(1) Postdoc Position: Improving delivery of therapeutic agents to metastatic cancer of the liver
Description: Liver metastases are among the most common complications of tumors of the visceral tract and usually result in the demise of the patient, even when best available therapeutic measures are employed. The fact that liver metastases recruit their neoangiogenic blood supply from the hepatic artery opens a therapeutic window, since agents administered via the arteria hepatica can reach the tumor with higher specificity. An advanced vasoactive approach can leverage differentiation characteristics of normal vs. tumor blood vessels and thus further enhance intra-arterial therapeutic delivery. You will be involved in inducing and monitoring liver tumors in a rat model, measuring tumor perfusion using fluorescent microbeads, oxygen probes and intravital microscopy, and using these methods to evaluate methods to improve blood flow and drug delivery. This position is carried out in cooperation with partners at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam.
Your profile: Candidates should hold a PhD degree in biology, veterinary medicine, biomedical engineering, or related field, with a background in mammalian physiology and/or surgery, and proven experience in tissue culture. Willingness and ability to perform animal experiments is a requirement. FELASA certification is a requirement. The applicant should be highly self-motivated and able to work independently. (2) Postdoc Position: Novel formulations for inhaled drug delivery
Description: Inhaled drug delivery allows for the quick deposition of substantial amounts of a given pharmaceutical agent into the blood stream, thus permitting immediate-onset drug action while avoiding intravenous injection. The applicant will aid with assembly and testing of excipients and formulations for feasibility and stability, and potentially cytotoxicity. Resulting strategies serve to improve health during pulmonary arterial hypertension, systemic hypoxemia and related disease settings. The ultimate goal is the translation of successful formulation candidates into human use. This is a cooperative project with the CardioVascular Pulmonary Research Lab (CVP) at the University of Colorado in Denver, USA. The possibility to travel is included.
Your profile: Candidates should hold a PhD degree in Physical/ Medicinal/ Biomedical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, or related field. Experience in formulation work and tissue culture is a plus. The applicant should be a reliable, highly self-motivated personality who is interested in translational work and is able to work independently. Excellent command of English is required. (3) Doktorandenstelle
Im Institut für Pharmazie und Biochemie, Arbeitsgruppe Prof. Dr. Dirk Schneider, ist zum nächstmöglichen Zeitpunkt eine Doktorandenstelle zu besetzen.
In einem Forschungsprojekt sollen Untersuchungen zur Struktur und Funktion eines bakteriellen ABC-Transporters durchgeführt werden.
Im Zentrum der wissenschaftlichen Tätigkeit liegen Untersuchungen zur Struktur, Faltung und Funktion eines bakteriellen ABC-Transporters. ABC-Transporter sind aktuell im Fokus einer Vielzahl internationaler Studien und sie tragen als Arzneimittel-Targets zur Therapie vielfältiger Erkrankungen bei. Untersuchungen an bakteriellen Modellproteinen ermöglichen einen guten experimentellen Zugang, um letztendlich übergreifende Funktionsprinzipien der Transporter-Familie verstehen zu können.
Wir suchen eine/n wissenschaftlich interessierte/n und motivierte/n Mitarbeiter/in mit einem abgeschlossenes Hochschulstudium der Biochemie, Biologie oder Chemie. Wir erwarten Interesse an wissenschaftlichem Arbeiten, Zuverlässigkeit und Teamfähigkeit. Kenntnisse in biophysikalischen, proteinbiochemischen und/oder molekularbiologischen Arbeitstechniken sind von Vorteil. Gute Sprachkenntnisse in Deutsch und Englisch in Wort und Schrift werden vorausgesetzt.
Wir bieten ein breites Spektrum an biochemischen, biophysikalischen, als auch molekular- und zellbiologischen Arbeitsmethoden an.
