Castle Rauischholzhausen,

by car, approximately 30 minutes away from the city of Giessen,  in a charming picturesque region of Ebsdorfergrund, you encounter Castle Rauischholzhausen, probably the most beautiful property of Gießen University. Conventions, workshops, seminars and festivities take place here on a regular basis. The estate built at the turn of the 19th century appears like a fairy-tale castle nestled into a lavish park in the style of the English landscaped gardens.


Arrival by train and public transportation

The convention facility “Castle Rauischholzhausen” is difficult to reach by either train or public transportation – arriving by car is definitely easier.

  •  The closest train station is the Marburg main train station (Marburg Hbf.) situated along the main train-route Frankfurt- Gießen – Kassel and usually commuter trains, regional trains or IC trains arrive here hourly.   • According to this “Fahrplanauskunft der Deutschen Bahn” bus line 75 leaves Marburg (Lahn) going to Rauischholzhausen. Departure times: 11:20, 13:32, 16:34 and/or 18:20 departing from the central bus station in Marburg (it is a 5-minute-walk from the Marburg train station); Arrival in Rauischholzhausen (Potsdamer Street) within approx. 30 minutes.
  • This bus is only operating Mondays – Fridays.


Arrival by car

From the West (Cologne, Ruhr region) – to Gießener Ring

  • Drive onto A45 direction Frankfurt up to the connecting point Wetzlar-Ost
  • Leave the A45 onto the B49 towards direction Gießen
  • Drive onto B49 ( four lanes) up to the highway triangular Gießen-Bergwerkswald,
  • Then onto A 485 – part of the Gießener Ring - direction Kassel/Marburg up to the Gießen Northern Intersection (Gießener Nordkreuz)
  •  Continue direction Gießen/Gießener Ring – Rauischholzhausen

From the North (Kassel, Hannover) – to Marburg

  •   At Kassel Intersection, follow the signs direction Marburg, which will lead you onto A49.
  •  After another 4 km, you will reach the Kasseler Südkreuz ( Kassel southern intersection)
  •  From here follow the A49 and the B3 towards Marburg
  • Marburg will be reached after approx. 100 km
  •  Drive direction Marburg – Rauischholzhausen

From the East (Bad Hersfeld, Erfurt) to Intersection Homberg/Ohm

  • Drive onto A5 direction Gießen, Frankfurt
  •  Leave the A5 at the connection point Homberg/Ohm
  • Then head at to the connection point Homberg/Ohm – Rauischholzhausen

From the South (Frankfurt, Würzburg) – to Gießener Ring

  •   Coming from direction Frankfurt: head onto A5 direction Kassel up to Gambacher Kreuz, then onto A45 direction Gießen up to the Gießener Südkreuz.
  •  Coming from Würzburg, use A45 direction Gießen up the Gießener Südkreuz (Gießen Southern Intersection).
  •  From here please use A485 direction Marburg via Gießen-Berwerkswald up to  Gießener Nordkreuz ( Gießen Northern Intersection)

Gießen/Gießener Ring – to Rauischholzhausen

  •   At the Gießen Nordkreuz (Gießen Northern Intersection) leave the Gießener Ring via the B3 ( four lanes) direction Marburg
  • Leave the B3 at exit Fronhausen/Ebsdorfer Grund direction Ebsdorfer Grund.
  •  On this two-lane country road you will pass the villages Hachborn, Ebsdorf, Heskem, Wittelsberg and after 17 km ( approx.. 20 minutes away from the exit Fronhausen) you will reach Rauischholzhausen
  •  Continue on towards Rauischholzhausen to the castle.

Marburg to Rauischholzhausen

  • Alternative 1: use the country road from Marburg passing through the Lahn Mountains and the villages of Schröck and Roßdorf to Rauischhozhausen.
  • Alternative 2: use the country road from Marburg to Cappel, passing Heskem and Wittelsberg to Rauischholzhausen.
  •  Go on towards Rauischholzhausen to the castle.

Intersection Homberg/Ohm to Rauischholzhausen

  • At connection point Homberg/Ohm drive direction Bernsfeld
  • Then drive further through the villages Weitershain, Rüddingshausen, Roßberg, Heskem (have a look at the arrival map or the detailed arrival map) to Rauischholzhausen
  •  Go on towards Rauischholzhausen to the castle.


Rauischholzhausen to the Castle

In Rauischholzhausen the road to the castle is signposted. There is an upper and a lower access road to the castle, each ending in a parking lot. The upper parking lot can hold up to 50 vehicles, the lower one approx. 10; use the side streets for additional parking.  Both parking lots are within a few steps of the castle.
